Houston Rockets forward Dillon Brooks is facing the Memphis Grizzlies in Memphis on Friday night for the first time as an opponent. Before joining the Rockets this summer, Brooks had spent his entire career in Memphis, becoming one of the most beloved players on the team.

While his fit on the court became less than ideal towards the end of his time in Memphis, Brooks was integral in turning them into a perennial playoff team. Establishing himself as an All-Defensive player, Brooks was huge on that end during his time in Memphis. While his offensive game certainly had holes, Brooks also found ways to contribute on that end as well.

More importantly than anything Brooks brought on the offensive or defensive end during his time with the Grizzlies, was his toughness and edge that made him and the team who they were during his time there. Receiving a tribute video in his first game back in Memphis, Brooks was visibly emotional as he watched what the Grizzlies put together for him.

The crowd gave Brooks a standing ovation, both in pregame intros and during his tribute video. This was very cool to see, because while Brooks embraces the villain role, he will always be loved by the fans in Memphis for what he did in a Grizzlies uniform all those years.
