For one quarter, the Miami Heat played like the No. 8 seed. 

The remainder they looked like the best team in the Eastern Conference. Behind a huge third quarter, the Heat defeated the Boston Celtics 123-116 Wednesday in Game 1 of the conference finals. 

Jimmy Butler led the Heat with 35 points, seven assists and six steals while Bam Adebayo finished with 20 points and eight rebounds

After the Celtics led by nine at halftime, the Heat outscored them 46-25 in the third quarter to take control. The Heat have now won the opening game in every round of the playoffs, all on the opponents homecourt. 

The Celtics were led by forward Jayson Tatum's 30 points but he had two key turnovers in the final minutes. Jaylen Brown added 22 points and nine rebounds. 

Game 2 is Friday in Boston at TD Garden. .
