Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic was the center of controversy during a game against the Miami Heat.

On Nov. 8, 2021, Heat forward Markieff Morris bumped into Jokic while he was coming up the court. As a result, Jokic ran behind him and pushed him down. After a minor altercation between both teams, Jokic and Morris were ejected. The next day, it was announced Jokic was suspended for one game without pay while Morris missed significant time.

During a recent episode of Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes’ All The Smoke podcast, Morris talked about the incident and said it was the Heat’s choice to keep him out for that long.

“So the shot was, it was a little hard,” Morris said. “It was like a little whiplash. So I mean, to be 350, catching me off guard, it really ain’t do s–t. But you know, at the time, I was a little off. It was so more with the Miami Heat. They was just trying to protect me from, you know, against me from myself. But I was cleared to play like two weeks after that. They just held me out. So it really wasn’t one of those things where I was injured or in pain or anything like that. Took a sucker shot. It’s like when you get, they call it a snuck. He snuck me, yeah. It was a sucker shot.”

Without a doubt, the Heat took the incident personally. After the game, a picture went viral of several Heat players standing outside the Nuggets’ locker room looking for Jokic.

Even though the feelings didn’t linger into last season’s Finals, Morris still carries it with him, and rightfully so.
