Charles Barkley Calls Damian Lillard's Trade Request To Miami Heat "Unfair"
Retired NBA star and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is always willing to offer his honest, and sometimes blunt, opinion.
Barkley finally got around to chiming in on the Damian Lillard-Miami Heat saga. During a recent appearance on The Bill Simmons podcast for The Ringer, Barkley said he was disappointed with the circumstances surrounding the situation.
While Barkley agrees with players being able to request trades, he wasn't a fan of Lillard picking his team.
“I think Dame’s request was unfair, only going to Miami, because Miami don’t have any assets," Barkley. "…The only problem I have with Dame, he says, ‘Hey trade me, try to put me in the best situation.’ But they can’t screw up their organization by taking pennies on the dollar."'
The Heat's lack of assets are holding up the deal. Two months have passed since Lillard requested a trade, but the Blazers have yet to find a suitable deal. They have little interest in Tyler Herro because they already have a talented backcourt.
The Heat refuse to part with center Bam Adebayo while Duncan Robinson, Jaime Jaquez or Nikola Jovic are enough to acquire a player the caliber of Lillard. The only hope is the Heat involving a third team and including several draft picks in the deal.
Barkley is known for a lot of outlandish takes but he may be right for once.
