Not only are the Miami Heat just three wins from the NBA Finals, they also have another opportunity to stick it to one of their biggest rivals.

Former Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce, one of the Heat's all-time haters, picked the Celtics to win in five games. The Heat just need one more to ensure that won't happen.

The No. 8 seeded Heat defeated the No. 2 Celtics 123-116 Wednesday in Boston on the strength of a 46-25 run in the third quarter. They also were led by forward Jimmy Butler's 35 points, seven assists and six steals.

Game 2 is Friday in Boston.

The Heat are attempting to follow the 1999 New York Knicks as No. 8 seeds to make the NBA Finals. They Knicks did it during the strike-shortened year, losing to the San Antonio Spurs
