Hip Hop Legend Dedicates Song On New Album To Lakers Hall Of Famer
When looking at the music genre of rap, it seems like it has always been closely identified with the game of basketball. NBA players such as Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant and more have all cashed in on deals with record labels and become friends with some of the biggest music artists in the world.
However, nobody does it quite like the biggest names from a few decades ago and even if former Los Angeles Lakers lottery pick Lonzo Ball says he isn't as big as before, Nas remains as one of the biggest icons in the hip-hop world. The 49-year-old artist has been nominated for multiple Grammy's and MTV Video Music Awards and actually recently won the Grammy award for the Best Rap Album in 2021 with his 'King's Disease' project.
And Nas made sure to pay homage to a retired Lakers champion and legend Magic Johnson in his latest album 'Magic 2' with the seventh track titled 'Earvin Magic Johnson.'
"On Nas’s new album Magic 2 he dedicated track 7 to me called Earvin Magic Johnson! Thank you for the respect and honor of my business acumen. You’re a hell of a businessman in your own right!"
For anybody that has not listened to the song just yet, I highly recommend tuning in and hearing the timeless storytelling that Nas delivers. He mentions Magic and a number of his Showtime Lakers teammates and coaches a number of times.
He even gives a shoutout to former LA head coach Pat Riley who oversaw the roster for some of those prime years.
"
At The Forum like I'm Magic and Kareem on the floor
Pat Riley on the bench callin' plays, I just score (I just score, I just score)
Callin' plays, we just score (I just score, yeah)
"

It's great to see Magic receiving love after so many decades of excellence.
