Lakers News: Executive Considers Victor Wembanyama Even More Touted As Prospect Than LeBron James

Quite the hot take!
In this story:

Coming out of high school, LeBron James was already being touted as 'The Chosen One' and it was believed that he would be labeled a franchise player even without any collegiate experience under his belt. To get selected number one at about 19-years-old is no small feat and to enter one of the biggest sports organizations in the world with those types of expectations, nobody really thought The King would forge out the resume he has right now.

But now that Victor Wembanyama finally made his summer league debut in front of the basketball world for the San Antonio Spurs and since everybody has gotten their first few rounds of criticism and compliments out of the way, we can start looking at where his hype levels rank next to other notable prospects. The only ones that are seriously comparable to Wemby have been James, Zion Williamson after an elite Duke season and Anthony Davis after his dominant campaign at Kentucky.

However, it looks like a certain NBA assistant GM believes that Wembanyama definitely has more hype than James did when he was first entering the league back in 2023.

"It wasn’t any one thing he did, it was his overall skill set that impressed me," the Western Conference assistant GM said. "The only fear is that there’s so much hype around him — how can he live up to it?

LeBron (James)

didn’t get this much hype coming out. But Victor seems built for it."

It may be due to the lack of social media back in the early 2000's that has led this assistant GM to believe this. Wembanyama has the opportunity to re-define what it means to be a versatile basketball player so we'll have to see how his rookie season plays out.
