Lakers Rumors: Writer Warns Kyrie Irving to Avoid LA in Free Agency

Should Kyrie want to be in LA?
In this story:

Kyrie Irving has been at the center of the Los Angeles Lakers rumors for the better part of two years. Irving is a free agent this summer and could join the Lakers if he wanted too. Reuniting with LeBron James has been something that the two players have talked about at length. However the reality of the situation is that it just may not be in the cards. Most people think that the pairing would work out well for Los Angeles but there are a select few that disagree.

Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report is one of those and he says that Irving should be cautious about joining James and the Lakers. He believes Irving is better off taking the money and staying with Dallas.

"All the more reason for the eight-time All-Star to avoid the pay cut he'd have to take to join the Lakers, not to mention the immense pressure to perform, and stick with the Mavs. For Irving, this comes down to getting the last big bag of his career before

everyone

sours on him."

Per Bleacher Report

Hughes makes an interesting point about the pressure that Irving would be under if he joined LA. But Irving has been under pressure since James returned to Cleveland. He's been in a championship or bust mindset for awhile now and while being a Laker is different than any other team, Irving would be able to handle the pressure.

This is likely the last chance for Irving to get paid a large amount due to his age and reputation around the league. While money isn't everything, Irving also understands this fact. He wants to make sure his family is provided for and nobody knows how much longer he will play in the NBA.

Irving and the Lakers make a ton of sense. NBA fans would be thrilled to see Irving and James reunite in LA with Anthony Davis running next to them. It would make the Lakers one of the favorites to win the NBA championship next season. But the likelihood of the pairing is unlikely.

The Lakers have maintained that they aren't interested in Irving and Irving may not want to join LA. This summer will give us the answers to all our questions and it'll be interesting to watch play out.
