Lakers News: Max Christie Striving For Roster Role This Season

He has more than earned a spot!
In this story:

Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Max Christie has been the talk of the Lakers' Summer League team this year and for good reason. The second-season player looks to have taken a major leap in his development and it's been great to see.

He entered this summer determined to prove that he belonged within the Lakers rotation for this upcoming year and I'd say that he has done more than enough to earn a chance.

His ascension this summer is in no small part to his work ethic and dedication to be great. He has been asked to be the primary scorer on offense for the Lakers during the summer league, as well as taking on the opposing teams best scoring threat. It's been no small task for Christie but he has lived up to it all.

“I just want to be in the rotation and play as much as possible,” Christie told

The Athletic

. “I just want to play as much basketball as I can. Last year was motivation to get to that spot. That’s really all it is. That’s my mission. That’s my goal.”

Per The Athletic

Christie learned a ton during his first year in LA, both playing some games and sitting on the bench. It's the experience that he is soaking up that has helped his growth this summer.

He’s obsessed with improving; teammates and coaches repeatedly refer to him as a “sponge” because he tries to soak up as much knowledge as he can. He prepares for every theoretical possibility, often to the point where striking a balance becomes difficult"

Per The Athletic

With this jump in production, the Lakers have no real reason not to give him a chance this season as a player off the bench. He has shown a more aggressive tone on offense and is hitting his three-point shots now with consistency. Christie is exactly the type of player that can really help the Lakers this season with his three-and-D skillset.

It's been great to see Christie take on a larger role this summer and the hope is that we see him more often this season with the Lakers off the bench!
