Magic Anthony Black 'Point Guard of the Future'?

Magic point guard Anthony Black has incredible potential as the team turns a corner into competing.

The Orlando Magic has continued to build off a solid foundation this offseason. The team added more youthful depth, and drafted two players in Anthony Black and Jett Howard, who both could potential contribute to winning for a very long time.

Black has a great deal up upside. He was pick No. 6 in the draft for a reason.

Now, the Magic have a good deal of guard depth, and that'll likely land Black on the bench to start his career, but taking over a starting spot won't be difficult if he's able to adjust to the NBA game quickly.

"Black is likely the team’s point guard of the future. Luckily for the team, they’ve got not only a serviceable one, but a solid one in Markelle Fultz right now," SI's Derek Parker writes. "It’s unlikely he'll will be a starter out the gate. And that’s just fine for a guard needing to hone skills like scoring in general, shooting overall and the intricacies of guarding multiple positions in the NBA."

As Parker mentioned, the guard has raw skill on the offensive side of the ball, and that can be developed. His effort and impact on defense is invaluable, and he's got solid playmaking skills.

The spacing in the NBA will benefit Black greatly, and playing alongside other solid young talents in Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero add another layer of development for the point guard.

Cole Anthony, Markelle Fultz and Jalen Suggs are all viable guard options, and Black learning to both play alongside them and make plays for them.

With Banchero primed for another jump and Wagner being a star in his role, Black will have the talent to bounce his playmaking off to benefit both sides, and him developing will be huge for the other two taking another leap themselves.

With Black having the intangibles and raw talent, the potential for being the point guard for the future and potential future deep playoff runs is strong.
