Magic Rookie Anthony Black Flashes Potential in Summer League Debut

Anthony Black shot 70 percent and stuffed the stat sheet in his Summer League debut for the Orlando Magic.
In this story:

ORLANDO - While it's only one game, Anthony Black flashed the kind of potential you would hope to see from the Orlando Magic's top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft

The No. 6 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft stuffed the stat sheet in his Las Vegas Summer League debut. Black scored 17 points while making 7 of his 10 shots in Orlando's 88-79 loss to the Detroit Pistons Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center. The dynamic guard also racked up five assists and five rebounds. Black was also a presence on defense with three steals

A downfall to Black's performance was his turnovers. He had six of Orlando's 18 turnovers.

Among the key plays that Black made was when he went up for a three-pointer and still made it while getting fouled and turning it into a four-point play.

Black's ability to do everything was also on full display in his freshman season at Arkansas. He was an all-SEC freshmen and was the only player in his conference to finish top 25 in scoring (12.78), rebounding (5.06), assists (3.92), steals (2.06) and blocked shots (0.61).

A path to key minutes will be tough for Black given Orlando's depth, but if Black's versatility and playmaking ability continue to shine, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Arkansas product eventually earn big minutes. If his Summer League debut is any indication, Black could be exactly what Orlando has been missing.

The Magic will be back in action on Monday against the Indiana Pacers. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
