Orlando Magic Could Win Games With Its Defense

After a night where the Orlando Magic struggled on offense, it's time to look out how its defense could carry the team to some wins.
In this story:

In the team's win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, the Orlando Magic did not have quite as good of an offensive night as it had in its first game, but the defense was able to stand tall and get the win.

The Magic's defense finished with five blocks to the Trail Blazers' one, and an impressive ten steals over the course of the game. Many people have heard it said, "the best offense is a great defense," and that may just be the case for this Orlando Magic team.

Both the Magic and the Trail Blazers did not look great on offense in this game, but it was the Magic's defense that was the difference maker and gave the team the momentum it needed to grab the win. Magic big man Moritz Wagner spoke more about this in his postgame interview.

“It’s a very powerful feeling to understand that if you turn it up a notch, people really struggle to score against you,” Wagner said. “I think we’re starting to understand that. That’s a lot of fun as a unit because you kind of embrace that too. This was game two. Teams are going to figure stuff out and get better. So you have to keep improving and get better.”

If the Magic keeps up its great team defense, it can really give the team the boost it needs to beat the many offensive juggernauts of this league. The Magic will get a look at one of these teams as it goes to Los Angeles to face the Lakers in the team's second game of the road trip. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. from Crypto.com Arena.
