Mavs Step Back: Highlights, Postgame Analysis of Kyrie Irving, Tim Hardaway Jr. Torching Pelicans
Following a resounding victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, all of the spotlight was on the performances of Kyrie Irving and Tim Hardaway Jr. ... and for good reason.
Irving put up 42 points to go with seven rebounds and seven assists, and Hardaway put up 41 points while hitting big shot after big shot all throughout the game. It was just the second time in franchise history where the Mavs had two players score at least 40 points in the same game. The last time it happened was last season when Irving and Luka Doncic did it.
Speaking of Doncic, he missed his third consecutive game on Monday due to an ankle sprain, but his team was still able to pull out the win and achieve a 24-17 record at the halfway mark of the NBA season – something that's incredible to consider given how many overall roster injuries the Mavs have battled.
“In terms of a personal evaluation, I’m not too deep into it," Irving said of assessing the Mavs' first 41 games. "It is the early portion of the season. We aren’t even at the All-Star break yet. You never know how things could change in the next few weeks.”
NBA Trade Odds: Mavs Favored to Make Deal for Raptors’ Pascal Siakam
The Mavs now hit the road for a quick trip to the west coast to take on the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors. In addition to recapping the Mavs' win over the Pelicans and showing Irving and Hardaway's highlights, we finished up today's episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast by looking ahead to what the Mavs have to face, as well as what we should expect from the team at the trade deadline, which is only three weeks away.
