Mavs Star Kyrie Irving Reveals Big Plans for Drew League Participation
If you love watching Kyrie Irving's legendary handles and gravity-defying finishes in actual NBA games, brace yourselves for what's to come later this summer.
On Sunday, Irving showed up for the Drew League's opening weekend in Los Angeles, and he told commissioner Chaniel Smiley that he plans to make his league debut during July's tournament.
Not only does this give fans the opportunity to marvel at Irving's skills in a more relaxed setting, but it also might present a unique recruiting opportunity for the Dallas Mavericks as well. Irving has already made waves in the news lately with his attempt at recruiting Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James to Dallas, and that will only continue to grow if James shows up at the event as well.
Even if James isn't in attendance, there are sure to be other NBA stars for Irving to rub shoulders with. Irving is set to become an unrestricted free agent on June 30, but multiple reports state that the Mavs are expected to re-sign him to a long-term contract. Irving has already started recruiting for the Mavs before actually signing a new deal, so perhaps that will be cranked up a notch when he actually puts pen to paper.
