Mavs Trade Deadline: 3-Way Deal with Hornets & Wizards Feasible?

The Dallas Mavericks have been seeking frontcourt upgrades ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline, and this hypothetical three-way deal with the Charlotte Hornets and Washington Wizards could solve most of their problems.

When it comes to the Dallas Mavericks at this year’s trade deadline, which happens on Feb. 8, two things are true: 1) The Mavs will likely have to include their 2027 first-round pick to have the best chance of making a needle-moving trade. 2) The trade would have to be worthwhile for the Mavs to further mortgage their future by trading that 2027 first-rounder.

The Mavs have been linked to several versatile forwards in recent weeks, including Washington Wizards’ Kyle Kuzma and Charlotte Hornets’ P.J. Washington and Miles Bridges. What if Dallas could find a way to get two of those three players while also getting an upgraded backup center in the process? Here’s a three-way trade idea that we could see working for all teams involved:

Mavs receive: Kyle Kuzma, Daniel Gafford, Miles Bridges

Wizards receive: Grant Williams, Josh Green, Maxi Kleber and 2027 first-round pick (DAL)

Hornets receive: Richaun Holmes, Jaden Hardy and a 2025 second-round pick (DAL via TOR)

Given that Kuzma’s trade price reportedly isn’t what it was initially expected to be, this should be a deal that is attainable for the Mavs. One first-round pick for both Kuzma and Gafford might seems cheap, but if the Wizards’ front office considers how valuable that pick could end up being based on what Luka Doncic does during 2026 free agency, maybe that changes things.

Lakers’ LeBron James Should Force Trade to Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving’s Mavs

As far as Bridges goes, that part of the deal would just be Dallas taking a flyer on a talented, but controversial forward — who they likely wouldn’t be able to retain in free agency anyway due to not being able to get his Bird Rights in a trade — as well as getting off Holmes’ contract.
