Herb Jones Inks New Four-Year Deal With Pelicans
New Orleans, LA - Herb Jones signed a four-year, $54 million deal to remain in New Orleans a day after the New Orleans Pelicans declined their 1.8M team option, making him a restricted free agent, per Andrew Lopez and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Jones will be in a Pelicans uniform for the foreseeable future.
Jones, 24, is the Pelicans former second-round pick in the heralded 2021 NBA Draft including Trey Murphy III and signing undrafted guard Jose Alvarado from Georgia Tech. The Alabama product has been in the starting lineup for the Pelicans in 135 games over the past two seasons.
He is widely known for his tenacious defense, averaging 1.6 steals per game in his career. Jones has finished in the Top 10 in steals in both years he's been in the NBA. In 2022, he was named to the All-Rookie NBA Second Team.
Jones' offense is improving as well. For his career, he's averaging 9.7 points per game on 33.6% from the three-point line.
The Jones signing comes off the heels of the Pelicans declining options on forward-centers Jaxson Hayes and Willy Hernangomez, making them unrestricted free agents.
