Former Boston Assistant Coach Will Join Pelicans Staff

The New Orleans Pelicans will add another assistant coach to Willie Green's staff.

New Orleans, LA - Andscape's Marc J. Spears reported the New Orleans Pelicans are adding Aaron Miles to their coaching staff.  Miles had been with the Celtics for two seasons after a stint with the Golden State Warriors. Pelicans head coach Willie Green and Miles were on the Warriors staff in 2019.

Miles was considered a candidate to join the Houston Rockets staff led by former Celtics head coach Ime Udoka.  The Portland, Oregon native played for the Golden State Warriors in 2005-06.  He later played in the G League, France, Greece, and Russia before beginning his NBA coaching career in charge of player development for the Warriors.

New Orleans has seen plenty of movement in the coaching staff this offseason.  Ryan Pannone departed for a position coaching job in Alabama.   The Pelicans parted ways with assistant coach Teresa Weatherspoon and former Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego returned to New Orleans as an assistant head coach.

Green is transforming his staff with personnel he's had direct ties with in the past.  Borrego was an assistant on the then-Hornets team when Green played for New Orleans and the Orlando Magic.  Nearly all of Green's current staff are his picks, with only a few holdovers from the previous regime.

New Orleans hopes to return to the 2024 NBA Playoffs following a disappointing 2022-23 season.  In April, the Oklahoma Thunder dispatched the Pelicans 123-118 in the NBA Play-In Tournament.  Thursday night, the team selected sharpshooter Jordan Hawkins out of UConn in the 2023 NBA Draft, hoping to add firepower to the roster.  The expected Zion Williamson trade didn't happen, and New Orleans anticipates the all-star forward will be healthy and ready to compete.
