New Orleans may still be looking to make moves when the 2023 NBA free agency period begins on Friday, June 30, at 5 PM CT.  Reports had the Pelicans pursuing Scoot Henderson in the 2023 NBA Draft.  Instead, New Orleans selected UConn shooting guard Jordan Hawkins at No. 14.  Would the team's brass remain silent or attempt to make roster changes once the action begins Friday evening?

Howard Beck of GQ Sports revealed how executives around the league consider New Orleans as one of four teams slated to make 'major moves' this offseason.

Rivals are keeping an eye on Towns (Minnesota), Williamson (New Orleans), Deandre Ayton (Phoenix) and Zach LaVine (Chicago) as potential marquee trade pieces, though there’s skepticism any of them get moved this summer. The Clippers, after gauging the market for George in recent weeks, now seem intent on keeping him. Team executives do expect to see major moves by Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago and New Orleans, along with a continued churn in Washington.

Beck's theories contradict what New Orleans brass has publicly said about any roster moves this upcoming season.  During exit interviews after the conclusion of last season, Pelicans vice president of basketball operations David Griffin said, "Have we seen enough to know unequivocally that it worked when we were No. 1 in the West?  No. But we've seen enough to know we're close. We're in and around it.  I think it's tweaks more than its huge moves.  But I also know we're open-minded if something significant has to happen."

Pelicans GM Trajan Langdon offered similar sentiments when discussing possible movement after the NBA Draft.  "I don't foresee a whole lot of change between now and then.  I think we're happy with our roster the way it's set".

Recent gossip circulated that New Orleans contacted Cleveland about the services of Cavs center Jarrett Allen.  The Pelicans also were linked to Toronto forward Pascal Siakam as a potential trading target.

New Orleans is seeking ways to improve the current roster and with good reason.  Injuries have derailed the promise of the last couple of seasons. Brandon Ingram will play under the final year of his contract during the 2024-2025 season.

New Orleans had a disappointing season, which may lead them to consider significantly changing their roster. After next season Ingram will enter the final year of his contract, and Zion will start the second year of his extension. The Pelicans should focus on winning immediately instead of playing for long-term success. They need to find ways to achieve victory as soon as possible.

New Orleans is currently +3500 to win the NBA Championship next season. Odds and wagers can be found at https://bettingnc.com/.
