Victor Wembanyama to Spurs? Here's San Antonio's Lottery Odds
The San Antonio Spurs finished dead last in the NBA Western Conference at 22-60 and only trail the 17-65 Detroit Pistons for the worst record league wide. A consolation for their disappointing season is the highest odds in the 2023 draft lottery.
NBA.com reports that the odds will be disseminated in descending order for each of the league's 14 worst teams as follows:
Per NBA.com, the odds are as follows for each lottery team:
Team 1 > 14.0%, Team 2 > 14.0%, Team 3 >14.0%
Team 4 > 12.5%
Team 5 > 10.5%
Team 6 > 9.0%
Team 7 > 7.5%
Team 8 > 4.5%
Team 9 > 4.5%
Team 10 > 4.5%
Team 11 > 1.8%
Team 12 > 1.7%
Team 13 > 1.0%
Team 14 > 0.5%
The Spurs (2) share 14 percent odds with the Pistons (1) and the Houston Rockets (3). Behind them, the Charlotte Hornets (4), Portland Trail Blazers (5), Orlando Magic (6), Washington Wizards (7), Indiana Pacers (8), Utah Jazz (9) and Dallas Mavericks follow.
The final four teams ranked 11-14 will be decided once the play-in tournament concludes, with several ties in the standings and elimination from playoff contention pending.
The Spurs' chances at landing Victor Wembanyama are as strong as any franchise's -- or whoever they decide to bring into the fold should they win. A bottom-three team has come away victorious in the draw three seasons running.
San Antonio recently announced that center Zach Collins will be the starter for the 2023-24 campaign. Additionally, they have Tre Jones and Devin Vassell at the guard positions -- two promising young talents.
Therefore, the addition of Wembanyama or NBA G League Ignite's Scoot Henderson projects to upset that dynamic, but likely for the better. The lottery takes place May 16, 2023 at the Barclays Center.
