Could Spurs Really Trade Rookie Jeremy Sochan This Summer?
It's rare to see top-10 picks be traded after a successful rookie season, but it isn't impossible.
Bleacher Report suggests that the San Antonio Spurs should target another lottery pick ahead of this year's draft ... but thinks the way to acquire one would be to deal their lottery pick from this year in Jeremy Sochan.
"The Spurs could gauge the Dallas Mavericks' interest in Jeremy Sochan's immense defensive potential," Bleacher Report writes. "San Antonio probably shouldn't ship Sochan out for Dallas' 2023 first-rounder alone. That selection is most likely to be No. 10, which isn't quite enough value for Sochan, who has an outside shot at making the All-Rookie first team. But if the Mavs sweetened the pot with future seconds or Jaden Hardy, the Spurs should absolutely consider it."
It's hard to see the Spurs dealing Sochan, who averaged 11 points and 5.3 rebounds in his rookie campaign.
Jaden Hardy is intriguing and another lottery pick certainly wouldn't hurt the Spurs, but maybe the San Antonio front office could look for other ways to acquire more youth.
There are teams in the lottery like the Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards who could be looking to deal their picks to shake things up and acquire veteran talent. Those destinations could provide a likelier outcome for a Spurs trade.
