In this story:

1. WEMBY SHINES, BUT SPURS LOSE "It's promising to see Wemby play well, especially after Friday's disappointing performance. The French phenom was due and he looked like the player everyone envisioned. It is only Summer League, but perhaps the panic in Spurs fans can drop a little bit after tonight's game."

2. THE NEXT PATTY? "If Jones can pull out some pages from Mills' playbook, he should also be around San Antonio for a while, perhaps also winning a ring like the Aussie did."

3. NBA CUP GROUPS "The Spurs are in Group C with the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder."

4. POPOVICH SIGNS EXTENSION San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is sticking around.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Spurs have signed Popovich to a new five-year extension.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Popovich is signing a five-year deal worth $80 million, making him once again the highest-paid coach in the NBA.

Popovich, 74, was due for a new contract after his most recent one expired at season's end.

5. SPURS NEXT GAME Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs return to action Tuesday against the Washington Wizards. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on NBA TV.
