San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama Embraces a Do-All Mentality

As the San Antonio Spurs get closer to the start of the season, Victor Wembanyama feels confident in his ability to do whatever the Spurs will need him to do.

For the majority of the offseason, most speculation surrounding the San Antonio Spurs has been about how they will build a lineup around Victor Wembanyama

Having a player who can do everything is not always the blessing it seems to be, as there are many questions to be answered. Will Zach Collins start at center? Will Tre Jones be a traditional point guard? Who will lead the team in scoring? What about in minutes? While things are starting to clear up, chances are that fans won’t have any concrete answers until after the regular season has started.

Wembanyama, to his credit, seems to be willing to do whatever it takes to help the team. If Collins starts, Wemby can run point in lieu of Jones. If Jones gets the nod, Wemby can help space the floor. He can catch and shoot, or find the open man with his absurd court vision.

"Sometimes, I'm playing the same role as Tre Jones. Sometimes Zach Collins, Devin Vassell. There are really no limitations. On a lot of set plays, it depends on where you are. I can be the point guard just like I can be the wing. It doesn't matter,” Wembanyama said.

This isn’t coming from a place of arrogance or ego. From day one, Wembanyama will not be the Spurs’ best player, but he will provide options never seen before in the NBA. As he develops into one of the best players in the league, then he can take the reigns. For now, he will be testing his skillset alongside the rest of his young compadres.

As the Spurs get ready to tip off the preseason tonight, expect Wembanyama to showcase a wide range of skills. Don’t be shocked or disappointed if he misses a lot of threes or if he turns the ball over, but expect some dazzling plays and stifling defense. Gregg Popovich and company will have him all over the floor, as they are still trying to figure out what to do with him. Fans aren’t the only ones baffled.
