Rumored Suns Target Jerami Grant Traded to Portland
On Wednesday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski announced the Detroit Pistons had agreed to a deal that sent forward Jerami Grant to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick.
Wojnarowski also added, "the 2025 first-round pick via Milwaukee is protected Nos. 1-4, sources said. Detroit sends Grant into a $21M trade exception, and Pistons now have $43 million in salary cap space for free agency."
Grant played in 47 games last season, averaging 19.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer, earlier in the offseason, said Grant would have been a solid fit for the Suns:
"I really think the whole thing with him (Ayton) sitting out the last 17 minutes, if that's what it was, against Dallas in that Game 7 and the 'it's internal' quote from Monty, I think that's very emblematic of an icy relationship there. So maybe even addition by subtraction to a certain degree could help, and Jerami Grant … He is by all accounts just as good of a defensive linchpin as any big man you'll find not as a seven-footer.
"Maybe he could be the Draymond Green-esq type guy where he hits some threes and stretches it even more for Devin Booker and Chris Paul to get into the mid-range … Could that work? I could see it because they're already so damn close."
However, any possibility of Grant landing in Phoenix is now off the board just one day prior to the 2022 NBA Draft.
