Raiders running back Josh Jacobs is expected to return to the team before its Week 1 road matchup against the Broncos on Sept. 10, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Monday.

Jacobs has been holding out away from training camp after the Raiders placed the franchise tag on the running back. The two sides failed to agree to a new deal before the July 15 deadline to work out a contract extension. Jacobs has yet to sign his franchise tender.

When Jacobs returns to the team, he will either sign the $10.1 million franchise tag or the two sides will work on a different one-year salary agreement.

The 25-year-old’s exact return date is unknown. However, coach Josh McDaniels said Sunday that he believes every player should practice before seeing game time, including Jacobs.

“Whether it be J.J. or somebody else, it’s the same thing,” McDaniels said. “Everybody’s gotta have an opportunity to do that, to get reacclimated to the pace, the speed of things.”

Jacobs was the NFL’s rushing leader in the 2022 season with 1,653 yards. He also scored 12 touchdowns on the ground last season.
