Andy Reid Refutes Kadarius Toney’s Allegation That Chiefs Made Up Injury
The Kansas City Chiefs came under scrutiny after wide receiver Kadarius Toney took to Instagram Live and accused the team of lying about his hip injury in a vulgar rant broadcast on an IG account believed to be his own Sunday morning.
Kansas City coach Andy Reid was asked about the matter Monday during a Zoom session with the media following his team’s 17—10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC championship game.
Reid denied the validity of Toney’s claim, saying the wideout’s appearance on the injury report was “not made up,” per WHB-AM in Kansas City on X, formerly Twitter.
“Obviously, he’s been on the injury report, so that part is—that’s not made up by any means. He’s been working through some things, and he’ll be back out there,” Reid said.
Reid indicated that Toney, who was ruled out on Saturday afternoon due to a hip injury and a personal reason, initially reported to be the birth of his child, will return to the practice field when the team prepares for Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.
Toney hasn’t played since Kansas City’s 27—17 win over the New England Patriots in Week 15, a game that saw one of his dropped passes lead to an interception by an irate Patrick Mahomes.
Toney has been much maligned this year for his drops and an offsides penalty that cost the Chiefs a potential game-winning touchdown in a Week 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
It’s unknown whether Toney’s rant will create any friction for the Chiefs as they prepare for the Big Game, but it seems as though the embattled wideout will get a chance to redeem himself in the Super Bowl, assuming he’s healthy.
