Albert Breer On Bengals First-Round Strategy: 'Invested Enough' In Offensive Line 'To Look Elsewhere'
CINCINNATI — The Bengals aren't likely to use this year's first-round pick on an offensive lineman. Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer dropped the nugget in his team needs article this week.
Cincinnati has some question marks at the right tackle position, but feel confident in the room overall.
"Offensive line isn’t out of the question by any means, but the Bengals have invested enough to look elsewhere with their first-round pick," Breer wrote. "Tight end is probably the team’s biggest need, and there’ll be options available there for the team through Friday, which could free them up to look at Alabama dynamo Jahmyr Gibbs as an intriguing add to a super-charged offense, or catch a corner (Banks?) if one slips a little. And one other thing to watch—Cincinnati has been sniffing around for a havoc-wreaking defensive tackle, and Pitt’s Calijah Kancey fits that bill."
Gibbs and Kancey have been popular names the entire draft cycle for Cincinnati fans. Both could be instant contributors as well. That factor feels imperative out of this year's top pick.
Cincinnati has one of the easiest schedules for any Super Bowl contender and we all saw how important home-field advantage was last season. Getting day-one contributors to push for a title now could be the final ingredient to Joe Burrow and the Bengals lifting a Lombardi Trophy in 2024.
