Chidobe Awuzie: 'I Haven't Really Had Any Setbacks' With Torn ACL Recovery
CINCINNATI — Chidobe Awuzie was one of many Bengals starters back in the building this week. Reporters caught up with the recovering cornerback as he rehabs the torn ACL suffered in the middle of last season.
Awuzie says he is on track to play a full slate of games in 2023.
"Honestly, you know, I thank God I haven't really had any plateaus haven't really had any setbacks," Awuzie said. "Hopefully it's not telling me I'm gonna have one in the future, but everything's been moving steadily. You know, maybe I gotta thank my parents for my genes or something or the food that they fed me but you know, I'm doing pretty good."
The Bengals' top cornerback is trying to keep improving—despite the major injury he suffered in the eighth game of the 2022 season against Cleveland.
"My ultimate goal is to become a better player from last year," Awuzie said. "I feel like the past two years, I've gotten better each year, and I don't want my ACL or my injury I had to hinder that. I want to keep growing as a player. So next year I plan to be a better player than I was last year."
Awuzie has 19 pass breakups and 2 interceptions in 22 regular season games with Cincinnati.
