Analyzing the Jahmyr Gibbs Hype and Why the Bengals May Go Elsewhere in the First Round
CINCINNATI — The Jahmyr Gibbs hype train to the Bengals has picked up plenty of steam over the past few days.
Multiple national analysts have the Alabama star landing in Cincinnati in their most recent mock drafts. We also mocked Gibbs to the Bengals.
Despite that, there's a good chance Cincinnati uses the 28th pick on a different player.
They'd love to add one of the top corners or a difference making defensive lineman.
That could mean Emmanuel Forbes, Deonte Banks, Jerry Porter Jr. or even Cam Smith.
Calijah Kancey, Lukas Van Ness, Myles Murphy and Bryan Bresee are also in the mix.
If Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid somehow makes it to the Bengals, he could leapfrog everyone and be the pick.
The feeling around the league is that the Bengals would love to add a key defensive player on Thursday night. If the board doesn't fall that way they'll pivot, but it's hard to envision Gibbs being their top target going on the 2023 NFL Draft.
That doesn't mean it won't happen. There's a scenario where Gibbs is the pick, but it's more of a long-shot than recent mock drafts (including my own) make it sound.
