CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a calf injury at the end of Thursday's practice.

The 26-year-old was rolling to his right and pulled up lame. He hopped on his left foot for multiple steps, without putting weight on his right leg, before sitting down on the grass.

Trainers looked at him for roughly one minute, before helping him to the cart and taking him to the training room for evaluation.

The Bengals avoided a nightmare scenario.

League sources tell All Bengals that initial tests indicate that Burrow is expected to miss some time with a calf strain, but "he's going to be fine."

Teammates echoed similar sentiments after checking on their star quarterback in the training room after practice.

It's unclear how long he could be out or how severe the strain is, but the Bengals and Burrow avoided a nightmare scenario.

He'll miss camp and probably won't play in the preseason, but he's going to suit up again this season.

"I think Joe will be OK. I don't know the extent," center Ted Karras said in the locker room. "I don't know the extent [of the injury], but I think it's just how hot it's been and we're running around getting our bodies acclimated. We'll see. I think Joe will be fine."
