Bengals Stock Watch: Who's Rising After Preseason Tie Against Falcons
CINCINNATI — The Bengals tied the Falcons 13-13 on Friday night. There were plenty of bright spots for Cincinnati, even though they ultimately tied in the preseason for the first time since 1971.
Here are some players that boosted their stock following their performance against the Falcons:
Jake Browning
The backup quarterback competition has been underwhelming for most of training camp, but Browning would have the edge if the season started today. He finished 16-of-22 for 140 yards and one interception.
Browning also completed four-straight passes after the ugly turnover, leading the Bengals downfield for the go-ahead touchdown with just 50 seconds remaining.
Trevor Siemian was considered the favorite to be Joe Burrow's backup, but Browning might've passed him on Friday night.
Chris Evans and Chase Brown
Both running backs fared well in pass protection. Evans has had a good camp and Brown was much improved this week.
Trayveon Williams is expected to be back on the practice field, which means the backup running back job could be a 3-horse race.
Jonah Williams
The Bengals starting right tackle took his first in-game reps on Friday. He played well, both as a pass blocker and on the ground.
Williams struggled last season as he played through a knee injury, but he's healthy and looks poised to have a big season.
Cam Sample
Sample only had two tackles on Friday, but he continues to make an impact on the edge and at defensive tackle.
He may not get the love and headlines that other guys in that room receive, but Sample should be a big part of Lou Anarumo's defense this season.
Young Defensive Linemen
From Zach Carter to Joseph Ossai, the Bengals defensive line room has plenty of young, promising players. Raymond Johnson III and Jeff Gunter also made an impact.
Cincinnati may not be able to keep Johnson and Gunter on the roster, but they've been impressive this preseason.
D'Ante Smith and Hakeem Adeniji
Both guys have shown that they can play both tackle spots. Smith has had the best training camp of his career and Adeniji brings valuable experience to that room.
With Jackson Carman falling off over the past few weeks, there's a chance both Smith and Adeniji have passed the former second rounder on the depth chart.
Max Scharping
The veteran continues to take reps at center and could beat out Trey Hill for the backup job.
He's played guard his entire career, but showing he can be Ted Karras' backup is his path to the 53-man roster.
