DJ Reader on Myles Murphy Having To Switch Numbers: 'Sucks For Him'
CINCINNATI — Bengals 2023 first-round pick Myles Murphy is switching from No. 98 to No. 99 in the NFL and it feels pretty permanent—as long as DJ Reader is around. The fellow Clemson product discussed the jersey dilemma on Monday.
"I can always be bought out," Reader said. "That number might be too steep."
Reader would revert to his college digits, but the NFL won't let defensive linemen where numbers in the forties.
"If I could wear No. 48, I'd go back, but I can't with the limited numbers," Reader said.
Murphy already took his initial rookie pictures in No. 99, so that feels more and more like the permanent pick.
