Doctor Gauges Joe Burrow’s Injury Risk Against Rams on Monday Night Football

Cincinnati has a tough decision to make with Burrow's playing status.

CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (calf) stayed out of practice on Friday as the team weighs whether to play him or give his aggravated calf strain some rest.

It could take weeks for the injury to fully heal—which the Bengals don't have as a 0-2 team trying to avoid a historic playoff death knell at 0-3.

Sports surgeon Dr. Deepak Chona gave his thoughts on the situation noting that Burrow has a decent re-injury risk if he plays, but it doesn't go down much with one week of rest.

"Can play Week 3 with high re-injury risk (~20%)," Chona posted on X. "If it happens, IR likely. Each week of rest lowers risk but needs ~6 weeks to be <10%."

Cincinnati doesn't have another six weeks to lose—it may not have one, especially if it wants to climb out of a 0-2 hole again for a division title.
