CINCINNATI — Jessie Bates returned to Bengals' facilities on Tuesday afternoon.

Joe Burrow and the rest of the locker room was happy to see the star safety.

"Everyone's very excited. You felt the energy in the locker room when he came back," Burrow said. "It was a nice jolt. It's always good to see him. Everyone loves Jessie."

Bates, 25, signed the franchise tender on Tuesday. He's set to make $12.91 million this season.

He'll join Chidobe Awuzie, Vonn Bell, Dax Hill, Eli Apple and Mike Hilton in the Bengals' secondary.

"Our defense is going to be really really good," Burrow said. "We know the kinda guys that we have over there, we know the kinda guys we have on our team. We're gonna be really, really good."

The Bengals have two joint practices against the Rams on Wednesday and Thursday. Bates won't participate in those practices, but he will do some individual work on the sidelines.
