Josh Whyle, Tyler Scott Discuss Possibly Playing For Bengals At UC Pro Day
CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati held its Pro Day at the Bengals indoor facility on Thursday. Potential draft options like tight end Josh Whyle and wide receiver Tyler Scott directly addressed how they'd like playing for the Bengals after their workouts.
Whyle played at local La Salle High School and would love to spend his entire football career in Cincinnati.
“My thought process is that I just want to go somewhere that's going to utilize me in the right ways," Whyle said. "Playing in the city that I’ve played all three levels of the game in would be pretty cool. I want to be a part of a team that wants me and wants to win championships and Super Bowls.”
Whyle is a very viable option for Cincinnati in the fourth (Pick 131) or fifth round (Pick 163). He actually slots in at No. 162 on the consensus big board and ninth among tight ends.
It will be interesting to see how quickly the top-10 tight ends get picked with a consensus gap between the top six and all the others.
Scott showed a similar excitement to Whyle when James Rapien asked the burner about his contact with the Bengals.
"I kind of first met them at the Combine," Scott said about contact with Cincinnati "They kind of ran the stretches before I went out there so got a little closer with them, and then I had a talk with them before competing, they mentioned they wanted to see me in, both Tre (Tucker) and I."
Scott's infectious smile lit up the Bengals' bubble when Joe Burrow came up. He barely missed out on playing with him as the quarterback chose LSU over Cincinnati when he transferred.
"I love Joe Burrow," Scott said. "He's an Ohio guy, from Athens. I watched him with Ohio State and then I guess in his process of choosing between the two I guess UC was in the mix. So you know, I had a slim chance there, but to finally get a chance to catch his passes would definitely be a blessing."
Scott posted an unofficial 4.32 40-yard dash at the event and (alongside Tucker) is one of the fastest receivers in this year's class.
He's moved up to 75th on the consensus big board and seventh among wide receivers. It's unlikely Cincinnati takes a receiver in the first two rounds, but Tucker could be an option.
Bengals special teams coach Darrin Simmons worked out the UC receiver/returner at the event. He is ranked 208th on the consensus big board and 29th among receivers profiling as a slot receiver with upside as a return man.
