NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler: ‘Signs Pointing’ Toward Joe Burrow Playing Week 1
CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow showed great signs of progression through his calf strain on Friday. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler followed up videos of Burrow running and throwing with more good news after the 36-19 loss to Green Bay.
"People I've talked to do believe that for Week 1, he'll be ready to go,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “That it would be hard for him to pass that up, that he's trying to prepare himself to play, but Zac Taylor has said it's probably going to be another several weeks. They're taking this really slowly. It would be at least a mild surprise if he played in some of the preseason action, but we'll see if it shakes out or if that calf perks up. It's a calf strain, it's something that he can manage and he's slowly working his way back. Signs are pointing in the right direction."
Cincinnati has been hovering between a one and two-point betting favorite over Cleveland to start the season. They then play another division game against Baltimore the following Sunday.
Burrow injured the calf on July 27 and has been working his way back ever since as Week 1 sits less than a month away.
