Sports Illustrated Picks Chase Young as Top Player Bengals Should Acquire at Trade Deadline
CINCINNATI — Sports Illustrated had an interesting trade candidate for the Bengals to go after as the deadline looms: Commanders defensive end Chase Young.
Young is in the final year of his contract after getting selected one pick behind Joe Burrow.
"The Bengals do a nice job of getting to the quarterback, ranking ninth in pressure rate at 25.4%. However, only Trey Hendrickson has more than three sacks.
"Young is in the last year of his rookie deal after being a much-ballyhooed pick out of Ohio State in 2020," Matt Verderame and Gilberto Manzano wrote. "As mentioned above, the Commanders are likely to be letting go of some players this season—the Bengals wouldn’t need to give up more than a mid-round pick, and adding Young to a group that includes Hendrickson, Sam Hubbard, and B.J. Hill might pay big dividends in the quarterback-loaded AFC."
It would be a big splash move for Cincinnati who could be fielding its best team in front of Joe Burrow for a little while as the financial impact of having great talent starts to increase.
The Bengals are on track to have their seven picks and two compensatory picks in the 2024 NFL Draft (one in Round 5 and one in Round 6). This will be the first draft since 2019 that Cincinnati's had comp picks.
