Poor Officiating in Crunch Time Helps Bengals' Rivals Win Close Games in Week 7

The AFC North posted a 3-0 record this week.

CINCINNATI — The AFC North posted a 3-0 record on Sunday with the Bengals on a bye.

The Ravens crushed the Lions 38-6. The Steelers and Browns both won close matchups.

The officials in both games will be a hot button topic over the next few days. First, a pass interference penalty against the Colts gave the Browns the ball on the one-yard line. The officials made the call even though the pass appeared to be uncatchable.

Watch the play below:

The Steelers scored 14-straight points to take a 7-point lead on the Rams, but a questionable spot helped Pittsburgh secure the win.

The Rams were out of timeouts and couldn't challenge the spot. Instead of Los Angeles getting the ball with more than two minutes remaining and a chance to tie or win the game, Pittsburgh was able to end the game with three kneel downs.

Both calls were horrendous. Kenny Pickett was clearly short of the first down. There's no way Donovan Peoples-Jones would've caught that PJ Walker pass—even if they were the only two people on the field.

It's hard to believe officials made those calls in crunch time. Of course, the Browns and Steelers could've won both games regardless. It's just a shame that two close contests were partially decided by poor officiating.
