Joe Burrow on Urgency to Play, Health Following Rams Win: 'Didn’t Have any Setbacks'
CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow gave an update on his strained calf after passing for 259 yards on 5.3 yards per attempt with one interception in Cincinnati's 19-16 win over Los Angeles.
Burrow did not have a setback on Monday.
“Yes, it still is. It still is. We feel good," Burrow said about his calf. "We didn’t have any setbacks today, but it’s still day-to-day. I’ve learned through this process that it can happen at any time. So, it was good to get through this one, and that means we’ll be stronger for this week. So, hopefully I can have a full week of practice to prepare for next week.”
Burrow had plenty of factors to weigh this week as the whole organization decided to pursue a 1-2 record rather than be extra cautious and sit the franchise quarterback.
“It was all stuff that you weigh when you’re making that decision," Burrow said about the process to play. "There is the risk to go out there and potentially re-injure it, but there’s also the risk to not go out there and be 0-3. So, I wanted to be out there for my guys, and I was confident that I would be able to do what I needed to to get the win.”
Now, Burrow can keep building strength and get the offense more in sync moving forward. The Bengals got the win, but his 25.9 ESPN QBR was his lowest in any of Cincinnati's three rough 2023 games on offensive.
“We’ll continue to have great practices," Burrow concluded about the unit. "We have to be better in the passing game, better in the run game. We have to be better in all facets of the offense. We can’t have that many pre-snap penalties. So, communication this week will be key, especially going on the road. So, we have to have a great week of practice all around.”
