Joe Burrow Gives Thaddeus Moss a Ringing Endorsement With Cutdown Day Looming

This could help Moss' case for the 53-man roster.

CINCINNATI — Thaddeus Moss had his best performance of the preseason on Sunday, finishing with five receptions for 44 yards in the Bengals' 29-26 loss to the Dolphins.

The second-year tight end is fighting for a roster spot. Star quarterback Joe Burrow gave Moss his stamp of approval after the game.

"We were talking about it on the sideline. There are certain plays where we asked Kyle (Shurmur), 'Hey, why'd you go here?' And he's like, 'I just know where Thaddeus is gonna be. I know exactly what Thaddeus is gonna do and I know he's going to be open,'" Burrow said. "Thaddeus is a guy that works really, really hard, gets better every single day, is always asking questions about the offense. He's studying the script, and then he sits next to Brandon (Allen) in the locker room, and he'll either ask me or Brandon, 'Hey, on this route or in this coverage, what do you you want me to do?' And you tell him and he does it. He's not a guy that you have to tell over and over and over again. And those guys are really valuable. I think he's gonna be a big part of this team that I'm excited to have."

Burrow and Moss were teammates for two seasons at LSU. The 23-year-old hoping to win the third tight end spot behind C.J. Uzomah and Drew Sample. Mason Schreck and Mitch Wilcox are also in the mix.

Moss may not be a roster lock, but having Burrow's stamp of approval can't hurt.

"Thad and I are great friends," Burrow said. "He was actually here visiting me the week before we signed him. And we were just hanging out for a little bit. And then, the week after, they announced that we were picking him up and so that was really exciting. He's just a great guy, great teammate to have around a great locker room guy."

The Bengals have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET to trim their roster from 80 to 53 players.
