Bengals Exercise Joe Burrow's Fifth-Year Option Ahead of 2023 Season
CINCINNATI — Outside of taking Joe Burrow first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tuesday's decision to pick up his fifth-year option might've been the easiest decision in franchise history.
The Bengals made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie contract, but by exercising the fifth-year option, the Bengals will add an extra year to his deal. He's now projected to make over $29.5 million in 2024.
The Bengals and Burrow are still hoping to agree to a long-term extension this offseason. Picking up the fifth-year option means the star quarterback is under contract through the 2024 season.
