CINCINNATI — The Bengals took safety Jordan Battle with the 95th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The 22-year-old had 71 tackles and three passes defensed for the Crimson Tide last season.

"It's a player that can play special teams, coming to compete at safety," Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said. "We think he really fits in our locker room and in that safety room."

Battle is the third safety the Bengals have taken in the draft over the past two seasons.

"Battle’s tape and skill set scream 'average,' but he is a smart, experienced safety with reliable football character and competitive toughness," The Athletic's Dane Brugler wrote. "He projects as a low-ceiling post/box starter in the NFL with core special teams skills."

Cincinnati traded the 92nd pick to the Chiefs for the 95th and 217th (late sixth round) picks. For the second season in a row the Bengals have used their first three picks on defense.

They added defensive end Myles Murphy and cornerback DJ Turner in the first two rounds.
