Pro Football Focus: Bengals Should Sign Veteran Tight End in Free Agency
CINCINNATI — The Bengals have signed at least one veteran tight end in free agency over the past two offseasons. Will they do it again this year?
Pro Football Focus believes they should. They listed Dalton Schultz as the one free agent the Bengals should sign this offseason.
"The Bengals could lose both Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd, who combined to see 165 targets in 2023, this offseason," Gordon McGuinness wrote. "Young receivers Andrei Iosivas and Charlie Jones could step up in their places, but the Bengals adding a talented receiving tight end could help them win in the middle of the field. Schultz proved himself to be a reliable target for the Texans this year, earning a 72.2 PFF receiving grade through the wild-card round."
The Bengals will likely tag Higgins, but adding Schultz would make a lot of sense. He's had at least 57 receptions in each of the past four seasons, is a capable blocker and would give Joe Burrow a legitimate threat at tight end.
Cincinnati could re-sign Drew Sample and Tanner Hudson and feel good about their tight end room if they also added a proven player like Schultz.
