Report: Bengals Interested in 49ers Defensive Tackle Arik Armstead
CINCINNATI — The Bengals are interested in soon-to-be free agent Arik Armstead according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
It's not surprising. The Bengals need to add defensive line help and Armstead will be the top option (not named DJ Reader) when he's released by San Francisco.
Cincinnati is also hoping to re-sign DJ Reader, who's scheduled to visit the Lions on Thursday.
Armstead had five sacks and 27 tackles in 12 games last season. He played through a torn meniscus and underwent surgery to repair it following the Super Bowl. He’s expected to make a full recovery ahead of training camp.
The 49ers asked Armstead to take a pay cut according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. He was scheduled to make $17.41 million in 2024. They're expected to release him before the start of the new league year on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
Armstead has 33.5 career sacks. He would give Cincinnati's interior pass rush a major boost. For a full list of free agent defensive tackles the Bengals could still target, go here.
