Patriots Offensive Lineman Michael Onwenu Fires Agent With Free Agency Looming

Could the Bengals make a run at the 26-year-old?
In this story:

CINCINNATI — NFL free agency is just a few weeks away. One of the top offensive linemen set to hit the market just fired his agent.

Patriots lineman Michael Onwenu doesn't currently have representation according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Onwenu is arguably the top offensive lineman in this free agent class. The Patriots could still use the franchise tag on him, but if he makes it to free agency, NFL teams could target him to play guard or offensive tackle.

The 26-year-old played 656 snaps at right tackle for the Patriots last season, but also played 194 snaps at right guard. He also played left guard during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

His versatility will attract a plethora of teams. Could the Bengals be one of them?

They have the cap space to go after a veteran like Onwenu. He's 26-years-old, may be the best option in free agency and has the flexibility to play both guard spots and right tackle.

Whether or not he'll hire an agent is a major question between now and free agency. The Patriots have until March 5 to use the franchise tag on Onwenu.
