Bills’ ‘Best Fit' to Replace Tremaine Edmunds? Bobby Wagner Signs with Seahawks

Should the Buffalo Bills sign linebacker Bobby Wagner in free agency? One analyst thinks so. … but the Seahawks have other plans

The Buffalo Bills lost a key part of their defense when linebacker Tremaine Edmunds departed for the Chicago Bears during free agency.

But fortunately for the Bills, there are other options on the linebacker market - including six-time Pro Bowler and nine-time All-Pro Bobby Wagner.

Well … “were” other options,

After mutually parting ways with the Los Angeles Rams in January, Wagner, who spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, is available for the second time in as many off-season's ... and ESPN believes the Bills are the "best fit" for his services.

"Buffalo lost Tremaine Edmunds to a mammoth offer from the Bears, leaving them with a hole next to Matt Milano. A.J. Klein is also a free agent, and although the team drafted Terrel Bernard to serve as a possible replacement for Edmunds, the 2022 third-round pick played just 111 total snaps as a rookie.

"Sean McDermott's defenses have been built around a pair of effective linebackers going back to his days in Carolina; Wagner would be a stable presence for a team with Super Bowl aspirations." - ESPN's Bill Barnwell

ESPN projected that the two sides would agree on a one-year, $6 million contract, noting the off-ball linebacker market is sitting in the $6 to $8 million range.

Wagner, who turns 33 in late June, is coming off a season in which he earned second-team All-Pro honors after logging 140 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and six sacks - with only two missed tackles.

Set to enter his 12th professional season, Wagner isn't "quite as fleet of foot," per ESPN, but "looked rejuvenated" with the Rams ... and could bring another leadership presence to the middle of Buffalo's defense.
