Bills Trade for DeAndre Hopkins a No-Go? Latest Rumors Update

The Buffalo Bills were reportedly believed to be one of the front-runners to land DeAndre Hopkins via trade, but new reports could prove otherwise.

Have the Buffalo Bills been ruled out of contention for acquiring Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins?

A midnight Tuesday report from The Athletic has poured cold water on the piping hot potential Bills-Cardinals trade deal involving Hopkins, saying that, unless there is a "significant development," it won't happen.

The Athletic's report came prior to the comments of Bills general manager Brandon Beane publicly commenting on the rumors. Beane warned against taking the trade speculation too literally.

“What I would say is social media is social media," Beane said. "Don’t take that too far."

“Our name gets thrown in the hat on a lot of things that sometimes we’ve done one percent," Beane continued. "One person made one call, and they’ve looped us in that we’re all over him and we’ve offered him a contract. It's funny sometimes."

So while Beane did not explicitly say the Bills made a call, one could imply that the reports of Buffalo making a deal with Arizona were premature.

While Beane's comments and the report from The Athletic temper expectations, the potential trade would make sense on a lot of fronts. At age 31, Hopkins is still considered one of the NFL's top receivers and would make a unique pairing with Stefon Diggs.

Don't let Hopkins' 2022 numbers of 717 yards and three touchdowns mistake you, as it came in spite of a six-game suspension for PEDs and after not having starting quarterback Kyler Murray for six games.

But it seems the Bills are not in the running to land Hopkins ... at least for now.
