All-Time Super Bowl QBs: Where Does Bills' Jim Kelly Rank?
The argument of "greatest of all time" NFL quarterbacks begins and ends with Tom Brady's supreme reign. However, the league boasts many other crazy talented quarterbacks that have shined in the the Super Bowl, one of the biggest stages in all of sports.
NFL.com ranked the best 66 quarterbacks to ever start a Super Bowl and Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly landed on the list at No. 21. Kelly is in the "in (or should be in) the Hall-Of-Fame" category.
Kelly led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from Super Bowl XXV–Super Bowl XXVIII plus six divisional championships from 1988 to 1995. Celebrated as the captain of Buffalo’s fast-paced "K-Gun offense," Buffalo retired his number 12 jersey in 2001. In 2002, Kelly was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
"Kelly, like Aikman, had a brilliant peak that wasn't quite as long as that of some others listed here," said NFL.com's rankings.
The other quarterbacks tiered with Kelly are Fran Tarkenton, Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Namath, Bob Griese, Len Dawson, Kurt Warner, Ken Anderson, Ken Stabler and Russell Wilson.
After an unprecedented career, the recently-retired Brady takes the top spot on the list. Behind Brady is No. 2 Johnny Unitas, No. 3 Joe Montana, No. 4 Peyton Manning and No. 5 Dan Marino. The ranking is based on accomplishment as it stands today.
Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts, the two quarterbacks starting in Super Bowl LVII, also make the list. Mahomes is at No. 10 and climbing while Hurts, who has only 34 career regular-season starts, lands at No. 57. It's not often Mahomes is an underdog ... He and the Kansas City Chiefs will try to pull the upset over the Philadelphia Eagles (1.5-point favorites) in Glendale, Ariz. on Feb. 12 to become Super Bowl LVII Champions.
