NFL To Review Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid's Officiating Comments After Loss To Buffalo Bills

The Kansas City Chiefs may be in hot water for some scathing comments about the officiating in Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills

The Kansas City Chiefs were none too pleased after Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills due to what they perceived as an officiating controversy.

Trailing by three late in the game, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes found tight end Travis Kelce, who threw it backwards to Kadarius Toney for what appeared to be the go-ahead touchdown. It was an amazing play, except for the fact that it didn't count due to Toney lining up offside at the snap.

Despite the penalty appearing clear as day, the Chiefs were still livid about it after the fact. Mahomes was seen berating an official in the dying seconds of the game, and went even further with his scathing comments in his post-game presser.

"It's the call. Just in that moment. Not for myself," Mahomes said. "I know how much everybody puts into this game and to have a flag change the outcome of the game. I've played for seven years and I've never had offensive offsides called... Loss for words. Regardless if we win or lose, it's another game, we're talking about the refs. It's just not what we want for the NFL and for football."

Kansas City coach Andy Reid was also upset with the call, as he too unleashed on the officials after the game.

"Very disappointed that it ended the way it did," Reid said. "Normally I'll get -- I never use any of this as excuses, but normally I get a warning before something like that happens in a big game. (It's) a bit embarrassing in the National Football League for that to take place."

Openly critiquing the officials has always been a big no-no in the NFL, and even the Chiefs aren't safe from the league's wrath. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the league will review Mahomes and Reid's comments, with the former's yelling during the game potentially being an even bigger issue.

While the game may have ended in a supposed controversy, the Bills will happily take the win to improve to 7-6 on the season and keep their playoff hopes alive.
