Bills' Khalil Shakir Training with Legendary Buffalo WR: 'Watch What Happens!'
In order to finally snag that elusive Lombardi, the Buffalo Bills - among other things - will need to solidify the future of their receiving room outside of Stefon Diggs.
The team could aim for talent in the draft or snag depth through free agency. But it'd be foolish to look past receiver Khalil Shakir, who still has tons to prove after showing flashes as a rookie this past season.
And considering he has the stamp of approval from Bills legendary receiver Eric Moulds, sitting back with an open mind as Shakir's second year unfolds is likely the wisest of choices for Bills Mafia.
In an Instagram video on his private account, Moulds shared that he is helping Shakir with offseason workouts while providing some motivational messages along the way, per Syracuse.com.
“BillsMafia, there is no off-season," Moulds said. “Anyone know this guy training with me for next few weeks? Watch what happens next year!”
Safe to say this should gets Bills fans hyped for next season, especially considering how dominant Moulds was during his time with the team from 1996 to 2005.
Despite only playing the eighth-most games (154) among all receivers in franchise history, the three-time Pro Bowler finished his Bills career with the second-most catches (675), receiving yards (9,096) and receiving touchdowns (48) in franchise history.
Incredibly, Moulds has a runaway, franchise-leading 1,187 targets in his Bills career. All-time great Buffalo receiver Andre Reed, who is the only one ahead of Moulds in the other major receiving categories, finished his Bills career at a distance second behind Moulds in total targets with 791.
Shakir is looking to have all this greatness rub off on him, something that could take the young pass-catcher to greater heights after seizing some momentum at the end of this past season.
Including playoffs, Shakir totaled 15 catches for 252 yards and one touchdown as a rookie. The low production is understandable, as he was growing into own as a fifth-round pick.
But it was his three-catch, 51-yard playoff performance in the AFC Wild Card that showed Shakir is ready to break out next season. This resulted in some additional praise from someone who, like Moulds, can already be called a Bills legend.
“I know he’s a rookie, but we’ve got a lot of faith in him," Bills quarterback Josh Allen said of Shakir after the AFC Wild Card win over the Miami Dolphins.
