Bills GM Beane Shuts Down Stefon Diggs Trade Rumors: 'He's Ours!'
Buffalo Bills receiver Stefon Diggs captured the attention of the NFL world when he was unexpectedly absent for the first day of mandatory minicamp in June.
Since then, speculation about why Diggs missed practice that day has been running wild. Some have proposed that the star receiver was upset about his role in the offense, while others have mentioned a potential rift with the Bills' brass. No one truly knows for sure what the reason is, except Diggs himself and maybe some within the organization.
Thanks to Bills general manager Brandon Beane, though, we now definitively know what wasn't the reason. Appearing on Tuesday's episode of "The Pat McAfee Show," Beane shot down any rumors that Diggs sat out because he wanted a trade.
"No one called on Diggs," Beane said. "I think people know that he's ours and we wouldn't [trade him]. Even if there was an issue, and he was never asking to be traded, that never came up, I've got a decent relationship with his agent, Adisa Bakari. So, it was truly never an issue for us, it was more just getting in a room and talking through how last season finished and getting on the same page."
Even if Diggs had requested a trade, he likely wouldn't be going anywhere. He signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Bills last offseason that makes it nearly impossible to trade him in the short-term.
Diggs' frustration dates back to the Bills' Divisional Round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in January. The star receiver had just four receptions for 35 yards on 10 targets, and was visibly upset with quarterback Josh Allen on the sideline. This seemed to be a one-off, until Diggs' mysterious absence in June.
Since coming to Buffalo in 2020, Diggs has been nothing short of excellent. He has racked up 4,189 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns, and has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons with the Bills.
Diggs and the Bills may have hit a speed bump in their relationship, but they're hopeful to have it behind them before the regular season kicks off next month.
